4.4 PLTs

NAME:Cara Louise Venn

Learning Outcome

Skill (General)

Skill (Specific)

Description (How did you achieve this PLTS?)

4.1

Independent Enquirers

1 identify questions to answer and problems to

resolve

6 support conclusions, using reasoned arguments

and evidence

I identifed questions by thinking about our origanal video, i asked is it good enough?, i then relised we had a problem, i resolved it by having a discussion with the group, to then change our music video from start to finish.

Someone in the group didnt agree with the idea but i showed them the video and gave a resonal argument convincing them there is know way we can use this.

4.2

Creative Thinkers

2 ask questions to extend their thinking

In our group I asked questions about what the characters can do in the film, e.g. I asked questions like, what can I do to make the scene look sad, what can we do to draw the audiences attention, this extended our groups attention

4.3

Creative Thinkers

5 try out alternatives or new solutions and follow

ideas through

6 adapt ideas as circumstances change

Our circumstances completely changed as in our group discusion we had an idea to change the whole music video, we rebooked the camera again and we started our storyboards again, as we went along we had more an more ideas to proccead. We completed the music video successfully.

4.4

Reflective Learners

4 invite feedback and deal positively with praise,

setbacks and criticism

I invited feedback from the music video that i created, when the video was uploaded to You Tube comments below was giving praise for the hard work, and also giving some criticism that i took in, there comments were much obliged.

6.3

Team Workers

5 take responsibility, showing confidence in yourself and your contribution

In our group I showed contribution, when me and Renee dicided to change the music video, i came up with the song to use (Annie-Hard knock life), i took the responsibility to edit the music video and showed confidence by acting in the music video.

6.4

Team Workers

6 provide constructive support and feedback to others

While filming, i told group members what they should do to improve, e.g whilst i was filming the scene i gave contructive support to Abigal, telling her to look more sad, and ruff up her hair a bit more, so it looks more convincing to the audience.

6.4

Self Managers

4 anticipate, take and manage risks

The risk of changing the music video completely, was a huge risk, as if we didnt finish everything on time we would have failed, but i stayed possitve throughout.

4.4 skills

I have learnt many skills during this unit, mostly on how to handle a camera, i now have developed how to use different techniques.

I have also learnt to be more confident on camera, this was a big issue for me before but I have now managed to do it.

The skills I have improved on is deadlines, I have completed work on earlier dates than I used to.

Another skill I have improved on is Team work, I have now worked in a group and managed to listen to everyone, appreciate there contributions and my own.

4.4 - reviewing 4.3

Our first original idea of creating a music video was going to be about a funeral, and a girl that was emotionally hurt by the loss, we started and finished the filming on a Saturday, a few days later me and the group had a discussion on changing the idea completely, in the last minute we decided to change it.

Considering we didn't have time on our side our music video came out fantastically and better than what we first expected it to be.

We all had a chance to film, and a chance to act, everyone in our group gave contributions. Watching the video back it is really enjoyable, there are good uses of camera techniques and editing, the song has also been edited at the end which really gives a good effect on the video, lighting was not a problem as you can see from the music video, as it was a nice day therefore no darkness or rain, the sun didn't get in the way either.

The audience seemed to enjoy the video as well- This is a response from Irowdy 456:

  • I enjoyed the humour in the music video and the twist where the nerds took revenge on the bullies in their little dream. I think that if there was effects in the music video then it would look much better. I like the fact that you had some steady shots and some hand held shots. The music video would have been better if there were different camera angles and shots.lrowdy456 16 hours ago

4.4- reviwing 4.2

Planning steps:

  • I have completed a storyboard sheet, planning what happens during the music video.

  • I have aslo made a health and safety risk assessment document showing the possible dangers of what could happend during the filming of this project.

  • We did not need to get any contracts sign as we filmed on the school premises.

  • We had to ask Mr Willams for permission to film in the playground durning school hours.

  • We booked a camera from the creative and Media deparment for a 2 hour use on the 5th of may.

  • Planning the costumes was quite simple as we was using a school theme for our video, so we had our school uniform, although we got 2 pairs of glasses for the geek characters played by Renee and Abigal.

I done well at the planning stage as everything that needed to be book was booked, and there was no problems.

Although what could have been improved was timming, as we changed our idea of our music video completely at the last minuite, we had to rush things a little bit, but every thing concerning planning went fine.

4.4 - reviewing 4.1

In 4.1 i was researching, i have completed worksheets that helped to understand what is involved in Record, i have found out what record is and different types of record. I used both primary and secondary research.

Primary Research:

  • interview with Lokmen Chekki, he came in to talk about Film, he is a production assistant and works with cameras a lot. He has been working in the industry for 5 years now and has worked on the BBC as a cameraman. He had alot of advice to give us. And also told us what filming is involved.

  • Also had an interview with Yoshito Darmon, he is a production assistant and worked with cameras allot, he taught us about the aesthetic rules, lighting etc. The 3 main Aesthetic rules that he taught us was, The rule of thirds, The white balance and depth of field, this helped a lot as these are different techniques to use on the camera.

Secondary Research:

  • First of all I researched on the internet for successful music video producers, I have found a few that are very famous, I have uploaded this information on my blog, showing pictures and information about them and how it came about that they are producers.

  • I then looked on YouTube for different types of music videos, e.g. silent film, black and white film (early stages of record), HD and 1970's news cast, this showed me how technology has changed for the better, and how in the early stages of record they had no colour and no HD, the videos where in poor quality.

The secondary research went well as it gave me an insight of how music videos has dramatically changed throughout the years, however it could have been better if i had more time to reserch as i would have liked to find out more.

I think in the Primary Reseach it did go well as i learnt alot from Chekki and Darmon, knowing what is takes to work in the industry and now haveing tips on how to use a camera at its full potensual, what could have been improved is also the time limit on the interview, i would have liked to ask more questions.

4.4 Record Log

What I’ve done

Evaluation

WEEK 1

Skills: I have done a table showing my skills and what I need to do to get the skills I have not yet got.

Today I have made a table showing my skills and strengths, what experience I have in film making and editing and what experience I have with music videos. Also I wrote what I need to do to improve on my skills, what I would like to develop.

Research: History of Record: I have made a PowerPoint about the history.

Today I searched on the internet on the history of record, I then put the information needed on a PowerPoint contain a few slides about what record is, types of record and earliest forms of record.

Find Examples (youtubee)

Today i was looking on YouTube, i found examples on how to use IMovie, How to edit films, what happens behind the scenes, lighting techniques and sound in film, i uploaded these on my blog a wrote a comment about each underneath.

Review A Music Video (Rihanna)

I decided to do a review on Rihanna and her latest video out at the time which was 'what's my name', i mentioned the audience, and how Rihanna seemed to get there attention, also about the beat in the music.

Successful music video producers: searching for successful music video producers

Today I was searching for the most successful music video producers; the result I found was Quincy Jones, Simon Cowell, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre and Chet Atkins- Chet Atkins was the oldest. I put on my blog some information about them and there work.

Interview with Former BBC Production Assistant: Lokmen Chekki he works with the camera a lot.

Today we had a visitor called Lokmen Chekki to talk about film, he has been working in the industry for 5 years now and has worked on the BBC as a camera man, he talked about the history and the ‘first moving pictures’, he also gave us lots of advise on script analysing, booking, Call sheets, production and Postproduction.

Interview with Cameraman : Yoshito Darmon he visited our group and he talked to us about his work, we also asked him questions

Today in record we had a visitor called Yoshito Darmon, he was a production assistant and worked with cameras a lot, he taught us about Aesthetic rules, lighting, the white balance and depth of field, I found out that there is a lot more to camera then just clicking the button.

STORYBOARD

I have completed my storyboard, this was the second storyboard that i have done as me and my group changed the whole idea of the music video.

4.2 Behind the scenes

This has taught me alot on filming, that you need to get every little bit perfect, so many cameras need to be involved as well as equipment, relised so much editing is involved and it must a take a really long time.

4.2 Using iMovie

This video has helped me by understanding how to make a video on iMovie, it went through step by step to show you how to put everything together to create the final piece.

4.2 Editing film

In this video i lernt that by taking one shot and another shot to give it a 3rd meaning, this is all from editing, and the effect.

4.2 Sound in film

This has gave me more of an idea on what equipment is needed to make the most of sound using an camera, now i have a better idea on how to use this equipment i will use them in my music video.

4.2 Lighting techniques

I have learnt from this video, as it has taught me i can use different lighting techniques by using a piece of card, cutting shapes out on the card can have a big effect on the whole atmosphere of whatever is filming. I will use this technique in my video.

You could use this document to help you to list the records that you like or have inspired you.

Name of record

Who made it

What I thought about it

Michael Jackson- Thriller

-Music Video

John Landis directed the music video, he who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jackson.

The video was choreographed by Michael Peters.

I thought it was an amazing music video, it was a good song, well rehearsed, and it must have taken a long time to do. The camera shots were perfect as well as the lighting.

Taken

-Film

This film was produced by Luc Besson.

Directed by Pierre Morel.

This film used many camera shots, showing the effect of violence, this worked well, also the lighting was good, you could see clearly in every scene

R&B classics

-C.D

Various artists have made the CD.

This CD had 2 CDs, with 22 songs on each, the CD. I like this CD because its good music and you can skip to any bit.

4.2 Health and Safety

My fellow production team, camera man and cast have the right to work in a safe, neutral enviroment, therefore it is essential that we have a health and safety list to have knowledge of all safety hazards and avoid them.

Set/Locations: - Central foundation girls schools playground - on the wall - main building - Before we shoot the music video we will need to check the weather forecast for that day previously to avoid any hazards or problem with the camera.

In our first location (on the wall) we will need to make sure all someone is placed in a correct position behind Renee holding her up, to avoid her from falling all the way of the wall when we push her this is to save accidents and injuries. The camera tripod will also be placed in a clear relevant space.

In our second location (main playground) we will make sure that when running we don't trip up the steps, we will have to look where we are going to avoid wasting time and injuries.

4.2 Plan for the peformance

As a performance i will be acting as a bully, first i have to film the first scene, then i will be acting, the music video will be about two girls bulling 2 geeks, the two girls steal the geeks food and ruff them up a little bit, the geeks will then have a day dream about getting back at the other two girls, it will be a bit like a comedy, after the geeks (played by Renee and Abigal) get out of there day dream about beating the two bullies up (Played by myself and Tiyonne) I will run after them into the building.
The song being played will be 'Its a hard knock life' by the musical Annie. I choose this song as the lyrics are relevant to our video.

Our deadline is on Friday which is when we will start shooting.

4.2 Ideas for Record

Ideas for Record

The idea that i came up with is using the song 'Its a Hard knock life' that was used in the film Annie.

I had this idea so in the actual video there will be kids having a 'Hard life' concerning bullies, and getting back at them.

I think this will be a good idea as it goes with the song, and it will have a hint of comedy towards it.

4.1 Record presentation

4.1 Rihanna- What’s my name review

Rihanna- What’s my name review

What’s my name is a song performed by recording artist Rihanna taken from her fifth studio album, Loud. Featuring Drake, the song was released as the second single from the album on October 29, 2010. The R&B song was produced by Norwegian production duo StarGate with strong reggae and ska beats.

The song is one of Rihanna’s best vocal work, it also has a nice romantic nature to it.

Rihanna knows how to entertain the audience, as she gives a wonderful performance in the video with Drake, she has an amazing unusual voice that suits the song, Drake also gives the song an extra reason to like it.

The music has a good beat as it has strong reggae, her voice is high pitched which somehow suits it, and with of course Drake rapping, it goes together very well.

What attracts some people to the music video is what rihannas actually wearing, everyone knows Rihanna is a fashion icon that loves cloths, she where’s a zebra cut wasted jacket, top, shorts and long knee high soaks, it might sound horrid but Rihanna knows how to pull anything off with them dance moves.

4.1 1970's news cast

As you can see from this video the news casts are much better now, the images are unclear on this and sound also.

4.1 Music Video

There are so many music videos out, starting from 100 years ago to now, there has been big improvements, e.g colour, image, sound.

HD is the latest T.V out, it show the viewers a better and sharp image so you can see alot clearer and enjoy what you watch more.

4.1 Black and white film with sound

Black and white film came out before coloured films did, here is an example of one.
